We’re all consumers and information is the first line of defense in the marketplace. Everyone can benefit from amping up their consumer know-how and getting the inside skinny on avoiding scams. That’s true for servicemembers, veterans, and their families, too. And that’s the spirit behind Military Consumer Protection Day, July 17. The FTC, the Department of Defense, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and Military Saves have teamed up for this first ever MCPD to kick off a year-round campaign to empower the military

and veteran communities. The MCPD site has free materials from these organizations and other partners to help manage money and credit, deal with debt, avoid scams and face a host of other consumer challenges. Are you a servicemember who’s curious about protecting your personal information? Maybe you’re a military spouse who wants some tips on saving and investing. Or you might be a veteran who wonders whether a business opportunity checks out. Two dozen other federal and state agencies, consumer advocates, and industry groups also have joined the effort with resources on these and other consumer issues to help our military families and veterans make informed consumer decisions and steer clear of fraud.

Commanders, personnel finance managers, military members or spouses, veterans, community leaders, and others can use the MCPD site to download resources or order copies of materials from FTC and our partners; put together a customizable tool kit for outreach events throughout the year; subscribe to the blog; and learn more about how to get involved.

All this looks god on paper and words. From my side of things I could not get any help from the gov. including State. Why, their was fraud, and I wanted to get money back. The gov. can not and will not take any cases with fraud, going to court before a jury, and several other things--unless their has been a bunch of people filing complaints, a service organization is behind them, their case is in the lime light, would put a star on someone's shoulder--etc. etc. I wish you people would tell all the story--Not just the good stuff. Veterans if you have a case you will be forced to hire an outside lawyer!! HIGH DOLLAR ALSO!! I'm 100% DAV \- I'm in a case now with outside lawyers. I was on the internet for 2 years asking the gov. for help!! DID NOT GET ANY. Plus everyone talks about savings etc. in TX. anything over 2 months pay in the bank or savings they can take. As far as protecting my ID- what id my credit score is screwed-I have paid SSAN starting when I was 16--64 now--soon to be 65 if I make it. Best bet believe nothing of what you hear and half of what you see--Unless you are in combat--this does not apply.
